For all her protestations that she’s a serious musician, Lily Allen, daughter of actor Keith, is yet to show signs that she possesses any discernable musical talent whatsoever. Instead, she chooses to build her reputation on drinking excessively, whining excessively and littering the media with ill-conceived, poorly articulated and frankly stupid opinions on whatever, or whoever, takes her fancy.
One of the innumerable spawn of actor Keith Allen, Lily enjoys emphasising her ‘working class roots’ and apparently spent most of her childhood living on council estates. She also appears, however, to enjoy ignoring the fact that she was privately educated. It would destroy the ‘street’ image she works so hard to cultivate, undoubtedly. Sent to fifteen schools and expelled from several, as a fifteen year old dropout she moved to Ibiza to work in a record store and deal ecstasy. As with the majority of the inconsequential tripe that falls out of Allen’s mouth at such an alarming rate, it is unknown how much of these stories of her early life is true, and how much of it is exaggeration and fabrication to aid the aforementioned image cultivation.
Having used daddy darling’s connections to get signed to Warner Records five years ago, she started posting demos on her music MySpace which, inexplicably, attracted ridiculous amounts of attention. This resulted in the release of singles such as ‘LDN’ and ‘Smile’ and eventually an album, the hideous ska-lite ‘Alright, Still.’
But the publicity from this was clearly insufficient to satiate her needs, so instead, she has become intent on attracting attention in any other way possible, the first of these being her propensity to slag other celebrities off. Recent gems include "Paris [Hilton ] is hideous, but I think she's amazing at the same time. I love her" and “I must say taking your clothes off , doing sexy dancing and marrying a rich footballer must be very gratifying , your mother must be so proud , stupid bitch.” (directed at Girls Aloud’s Cheryl Cole), which only serve to enforce the general opinion that her massively oversized cranium is being put to fairly minimal use.
Other examples of her attention seeking exploits include attempting to beat up a paparazzo and posting self-pitying MySpace entries about issues such as her lack of physical attractiveness and how all of England hates her. It would appear, that on these two counts at least, that Allen has actually got something right.
