Just as people were thinking Britney Spears' year couldn't get any worse (child abuse claims, break ups, hurt toddlers and the hair shaving thing), things do get worse.
It appears Rihanna's chart-topping 'Umbrella' was originally written
for Britney Spears, but her management passed up on the chance for
the freefalling star to record what could have been the biggest hit of
her career.
The track was written by 'Tricky' Stewart, who played it to songwriter
Taio Cruz, who immediately realised the potential of the song.
"I was working with Tricky in his studio the day he finished
'Umbrella'," Cruz told WENN. "As soon as I heard it I said, 'That is a
smash, I have to have it,' but he told me it was on hold for Britney.
He waited but Britney's people never called him back."
And so, as Britney's phones were jammed with calls to Domino's Pizza, a
certain Barbadian with a far better voice managed to have the hit of
the year.
