Hip-swivelling Latino Ricky Martin has looked at his empty life and too-full bank account and decided to reduce the distance between the pair by buying his own private island, using it as a place where he can entertain his friends (if they can be bothered to meet up with him).

Mexican newspaper El Universal (which ironically largely deals with news from Mexico and the surrounding countries), is reporting that Ricky has bought an island just off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Despite the fact that it's a fairly small plot of land, it still cost the singer around £4m, money which could have been spent of feeding the poor of the world, or at least teaching them to dance in an almost heterosexual way.

Anyway, good luck to him. We wouldn't mind shaking our bon bons on our own private island.
