There are some crazy conspiracy theories out there. Why just the other day lovely Frenchwoman Marion Cotillard, the recent Oscar winner, genuinely believed that the Twin Towers were blown up by Americans to save on the cost of refurbishment. Still, her ideas look like a huge slice of common sense pie compared with the claims made in a new Radio 4 documentary 'The FBI at 100', which reveals that the
Hell's Angels planned to assassinate Mick Jagger, but their 1969 sea-borne assault failed when their boat capsized.
The Hell's Angels. They became organised enough to plot to kill Jagger after he criticised their murder of an audience member at a gig in Altamont when they were supposed to be acting as bouncers. Launching an attack by boat. Anyone else see the problems with this set of theories?
Tom Mangold, the programme's swivel-eyed presenter claims:
"The Hell's Angels were so angered by Jagger's treatment of them, they decided to kill him... The boat was hit by a storm and all of the men were thrown overboard."
The Hell's Angels (by definition men who ride motorcycles) attacking by sea? This would be like the Taliban attacking Kabul on pogo sticks. Anyone who has read the Hunter S. Thompson book on the Hell's Angels would be able to tell you that most of the group were pissed-up petty criminals, not the fucking Milk Tray man.
Next week on Radio 4: how the Boy Scouts issued a fatwa on Katie Melua for her outrageous shoplifting exploits.
