CARRIE ON SMOKING

Matthew Broderick is unlikely to be on the shortlist for 'Father Of The Year' after he revealed that he and his partner smoke in front of their five-year-old son, who now looks like he wants to take up the habit himself. There's a family with more money than sense.

"I can just see the little budding gene of a smoker in there," he said. "He'll see a cigarette butt and say, 'What is that? Why do people smoke?'"

Well, little chap, if you had to go to bed with Sarah Jessica Parker every night, you'd be smoking as well. And not just tobacco.

Matthew, getting ready for bed by tying a tube around his bicep and flexing his arm muscles seemed a little confused about his own smoking habits, and not altogether sure whether he had given up.

"I used to smoke cigarettes, and I still do, lately. I gave that up a long time ago, but every now and then I will fall off for a week."

Right, that makes sense. Let's not be too hard on him, he's suffering enough.
