JOHNNY DEPP LINED UP TO PLAY THE RIDDLER IN NEXT BATMAN FILM

JOHNNY DEPP LINED UP TO PLAY THE RIDDLER IN NEXT BATMAN FILM

johnnydepp.jpg
'The Dark Knight' has performed so well at the box office that producers are already working on casting the next instalment of the Batman story, once again to be directed by Christopher Nolan. In a frankly inspired piece of casting it is rumoured that they will be approaching Johnny Depp to play the role of the Riddler and attempt to breathe life into a character hammed to death by Jim Carrey in the truly awful 'Batman Forever'.

Johnny's a lovely man so hopefully he won't prepare for the role in the same way as Heath Ledger did for the Joker (by seemingly going a bit dotty then dying). If this comes off it might be the first time the audience is cheering for the Riddler to give Batman a truly historic hammering.

Depp is no stranger to odd characters. He played Willy Wonka, Edward Scissorhands and used to knob Kate Moss, but there's another fine piece of casting in the wings. The Penguin (last played by Danny DeVito – and looking more like a dead dinner lady than a super-villain) is going to be played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, so goes the rumour.

Who else in the world could bring the awkwardness, the air of menace and the gallons of sweat to the role better than Hoffman? All it needs now is Angelina Jolie as a naked Catwoman and I'll start camping outside the cinema now.

So basically the makers of batman have decided to go back to the first film and remake each one in a attempt to make them less shit?

Best. Casting. Ever. FACT. I've got a semi already.

Wonder who gets to take the publicity you couldn't buy overdose this time round

Yeah, right. Chinny reckon

Fucking hell, it's all a bit previous innit? Can't we just think of some new material for fuck's sake?

Frankly I'd rather see Depp playing the Joker; facially he's similar enough to Ledger that he could get away with it under the slap, he's known as a chameleonic actor and he's probably the only person in Hollywood with enough goodwill built up that he *could* fill a dead man's shoes. They'll never do it though.
twattyspice on Thu 31 July 2008 said...
Green tights with questionmarks all over them eh, I don't think he will do it.
schnide on Thu 31 July 2008 said...
Depp for the Joker. It'd start pushing him again instead of playing the same old kook in a Burton film. Like steveg said, one of the only decent guys in Hollywood who could pull it off. Still, the next film's a long way off, so this whole story means about as likely as a Mitch Winehouse Rehab Centre.

who cares, how many of these shit unrealistic, plotless films do they have to make before they realise that games workshop only has so many customers to watch this uninspiring shit masquerading as escapism... it is star trek for the 21st century. Flogging a dead horse is clearly not a phrase understood in hollywood otherwise there wouldn't be so many police academy films.

I see it if they get Coldplay to redo the Prince's Batman song and dance. Boy those were good times

Games Worskhop, Star Trek? Fucking count me in.

Bristle, you absolute cretin, The Dark Knight has just broken every box office record going. Games Workshop *wishes* it had that many customers...
MissChampion on Thu 31 July 2008 said...
Bristle are you called Dave in real life? Because that is the kind of pretentious shite my ex would spout.
QueenofHeartsx on Thu 31 July 2008 said...
i agree with steveg on the Johnny Depp thing, although let's be honest: the only reason The Dark Knight dominated the box office is cus everyone's been raving about how good Heath Ledger was. they've pimped out his death. it's an okay film, but it's nothing groundbreaking. x

good on ya Bristle glad im not the only one who thought darc knight was utter pants and before you say it yes heath held my attention as the joker but that was about it in movie terms very boring very over hyped

Bristle- you are on a CELEBRITY GOSSIP site, so I'd get off your high horse if I were you- you're no more high brow than the rest of us- regardless of how clever or mature you think you are. And the 'only so many customers' thing? You fucking pillock, the film made more money in the first day than you'll ever make in your sour, bitter little excuse for a life. Seriously, I'm embarrassed for you.

at what point did I say it was an unsuccessful film, I just said I am tired of recycling shit and calling it a new film. The fact it has broken Box Office records and made lots of money doesn't make me want to go and see it any more or less than I did before. films don't have to be good to make money, look at Titanic, that was utter shite and did well at the box ofice, it is the American formula of film making I find depressing. I agree I got slightly carried away with myself halfway through though hence the pretentious ramblings but I was pissed

I'm sorry when was the law passed that you're not allowed to say anything negative about The Dark Knight, lest you offend someone? Emperor's new clothes cunts!
Mordok on Fri 01 August 2008 said...
Actually, I'd be very surprised if any of this turned out to be true...and as for the bit about the Penguin, Chris Nolan said that he would never use the Penguin, so this most likely complete bunk...

"'The Dark Knight' has performed so well at the box office that producers are already working on casting the next instalment of the Batman story, once again to be directed by Christopher Nolan." ...who the hell wrote this article? Nolan hasn't said ANYTHING about the third film, last time I checked he didn't even know what he was going to DO for the third film. Script isn't done, Nolan isn't signed on for the third one and casting SURELY hasn't begun at all. We have to wait at least 1 to 2 years before we get any confirmation. Not one week after The Dark Knight was released.
