Rapper
Jay-Z must be quaking in his boots this morning as he is the latest music star to face a court case, this time for stealing another man's highly distinctive rapping style. Normally rap is a load of young men being shouty, but
Mitchell Rose is launching the
lawsuit after Jay-Z (he claims) stole his innovative technique of 'whisper rap'.
Odd that having invented the style that Mitchell wasn't a huge star well before Jay-Z came along, though he does have other irons in the fire, describing himself and a rapper, lawyer and musician, though he could probably add the word 'lunatic' to the list.
Mitchell is seeking the trifling sum of $88m for copyright infringement and what he calls 'mental damages' (TMZ have the court documents
here).
Mental damages, eh? Seeing as Mitchell has already published a book called 'Mike Tyson Tried To Kill My Daddy' I wouldn't imagine Jay-Z and his bank manager will be having too many sleepless nights over this legal action. The bloke has clearly been deranged since well before Jay-Z came along.
