The Crappy, Crappy Sound of Radio One

Full tracklisting for the 40 years of Radio One album revealed

fluff
Forty years ago Radio One launched with Tony Blackburn playing The Move's 'Flowers In The Rain'. Forty years on, the 'nation's favourite' is being celebrated with a 40-track covers album.

And the cunning ruse to bring in 'the kids'? Having contemporary acts covering a classic from each of the 40 years. As you might imagine, the result is going to be, predominantly, ear-shreddingly awful. So, all-in-all, that's a prefect reflection of what's happened to 'wunnerful' Radio One.

Full tracklisting, if you can stomach it, after the jump...

I don't wish to hear any of those. how dare kylie even think of covering roxy music.

Are McFly legally allowed to perform the songs of actual musicians? I thought this kind of thing was banned under the 'Music industry CUNTS' act of 1997

Fuck me - Is there ANYTHING the Kaiser Chiefs will not cover if asked. They should try covering their own mouths!!!! My ears are bleeding.
PKC on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
I've not heard of half of these contemporary acts. They are called classics for a reason!!! I am truly appalled
Spendog on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
Band on the run done by the Foo Fighters - that could actually be quite good. First the sergeant peppers travesty and now this, lazy lazy lazy motherfuckers without an original bone in their bodies. What about mogwai doing Cum on feel the noize or Aphex twin doing Barbie girl?

I'm assuming the Lola cover by Robbie Williams is going to be autobiographical

Oh shut the fuck up you bunch of whining up your own arse fuckwits. It will be good to hear modern takes on classic tunes. Just because you think you are "big & clever" to rip these bands doesn't make it so. Foo Fighters WILL rock & most of the rest will do a good job.
HalfdeadFred on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
scrotey bollocks as you wish to get intimate with a certain Mrs Beckham I think your views can discounted as the work of a metalist. Club them all to death and set williams, winehouse and allen on fire just to be on the safeside.
rainbow_brite on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! how dare blobby williams cover a kinks song!!! and don't get me started on mcfly...
scroteybollox on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
In an ideal world I would get to splurge all over the delightful mrs Beckham whilst she was covering a classic track.....mmmmmmmm, the thought of it.
HoratioKnibbles on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
What an unequivocally vile selection of piss poor excuses for music. They may as well just urinate on the guys corpse and bury him in a shallow grave with a rampant rabbit in his arse.
Marshfield on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
Your Song (Elton John) by The Streets is going to be really interesting. Nice idea on the whole, although some of the covers we've already heard. And surely there had to be a better song in 2005 than a Ronan Keating one? Or was that a really shit year in pop history. Oh and yet ANOTHER Girls Aloud cover - who'd have thought it?

Pity about DJ cuts over at 1x, eh Radio 1 suits though, huh?

Is this a fucking wind up or what?
archstanton on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
It'll be a fantastic album, well done to all the great bands taking part
papers on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
This kind of thing really pisses me off. It's like saying that the original version is shit and would sound much better if covered by a current band. Isn't that what the music charts have been full of for the last decade or more?. Classic songs absolutley murdered by boy bands, girl bands and other assorted fuckwits. I'm sure it will sell millions though. As Johnny Rotten once said, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?". Pah!

McFly doing The Jam? Over my dead cunting body
CuntyMcCunt on Fri 17 August 2007 said...
Like I Love You (Justin Timberlake) covered by Maximo Park quality. Well Done radio...even if I do hate all DJ's except Scott Mills and possibley Colin Murray!

If I was disgruntled or from Tunbridge Wells I might rant about where my licence money goes...as I'm not, I have to say what a bunch of cunts all Radio 1 DJs are - about as entertaining as a bad dose of herpes (not that I would know)

Just thought I would pop in for a few minutes Pop Pickers and say anybody who listens to Radio 1 (founded by Anthony Wedgewood Benn who made it an offence to help Pirate Radio) needs to see a Doctor ASAP. "Fluff" Freeman has the best radio voice in the World bar none. OK he's dead but we can't all be perfect. "Not Arf" Disgusted of Doncaster.

All Along the Watchtower was the very first record I ever bought. It's been downhill ever since but never mind.
gobenji on Sun 19 August 2007 said...
The fact that the best thing they can find to cover from 2005 is a fucking cover from a 70's song anyway just about says it all. What a shower of piss the lot of it.

Think I'll wait til it comes on the Car Boot sale before I commit myself. On a different note have any of you Pop Pickers had lead poisening from your toys? Just thought I'd ask.
