Eric 'slow hands' Clapton has become the first Western rock star to be asked to play a gig in
communist North Korea. Clapton will play in the capital city (Pyongyang, fact fans) and it is hoped his soothing blues riffs and 'Layla' guitar solo will help build cultural ties between the West and the communists...
A North Korean official is quoted as saying:
"It will be a good opportunity for Western music to be understood better by Koreans."
But is this a good thing, we ask ourselves? Clapton may nearly be a pensioner by now but his potential set list is hardly teaching the North Korean's good things about the decadent West? Which songs can he actually play?
'White Room' - nope, psychedelic drugs references
'I Shot The Sheriff' - better not mention someone opposing authority
'Wonderful Tonight' - adultery!
'Tears In Heaven' - Tears In Kim Jong-il's honour...
What a great night it could be: "Comrades male and comrades female, welcome Eric Clapton with his song 'Cocaine'!
Maybe he could cement relations with a bit of a speech too?
