DARK KNIGHT PREMIERE GALLERY

Co-stars (including Gary Oldman, pictured) and members of Heath Ledger's family attended the Dark Knight premiere in New York last night. Everyone was raving about Ledger's performance with Michael Caine saying he'd be "very surprised" if he wasn't nominated for a posthumous Oscar for his role as the Joker.

Maggie Gyllenhaal said he was "remarkable" and "inspiring" and Chrisitan Bale paid his respects by saying:

"It's tragic [Heath] is not here, but I am here to see his talents and celebrate it, and I hope everybody will."

The film has already been well received by critcs. However we did wonder about this in The Daily Mirror...

"Heath Ledger is a dead cert to scoop an Oscar for his chilling portrayal of The Joker in the bleak, black blockbuster Dark Knight."

Hmmm, we're not sure if they thought 'dead cert' through properly...

No disrespect to Ledger but a critic on this morning's BBC news suggested an oscar would not be considered had he not shuffled off this mortal coil. Having said that, he gives Jack Nicholson more than a run for his money with his dark portrayal of the Joker...

Ethan Hawke - for that cap, sir, you are a prize dick The movie should be good, despite Heath being a bit dim and mixing meds. Personally I think it was a cover up for real drugs, but hey... what do I know. Should we really be awarding Oscars to people who aren't really bright enough to either a) not take medicine when it is required or b) take too much medicine than is required

Over-rated ham. Amazing how being dead brings out so many hazy memories.

I'd say Oldman resembles a young Leslie "Come On Down!" Crowther.
