Courtney Love was apparently advised to
abort her child when she fell pregnant by
Kurt Cobain as doctors feared that her heroin addiction could be harmful to the baby, according to claims in a new book. Unfortunately, aborting the parent wasn't (and still isn't) an option, otherwise they could have saved us – and several UK comics – a lot of bother...
Warner Bros Records boss Danny Goldberg claims that when Love was pregnant with Frances Bean doctors "tried to give clinical advice, suggesting to Courtney that it was not a great idea to have a baby while dealing with addiction", but Love refused.
Abort the child of a man who had just released 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and was shaping up to being the biggest rock star of his day? No she would not be
stupid enough to abort that cash cow heartless enough to kill the child of the man she loved.
Goldberg, who managed Nirvana at the time, writes: "The doctor suggested that it might not be safe for the baby, and Courtney, who was only six weeks pregnant, went into a confrontational mode. 'Is that a medical fact, or is that just your opinion? I want to see it in a medical book.' She was interested in medical facts, not a sermon.
"The doctor sheepishly acknowledged that at this early stage of pregnancy, a woman could discontinue heroin use with no physical or psychological damage to the foetus. Courtney looked triumphant as she towered over the doctor seated at his desk."
Just imagine how terrifying it would to have been to have Love glowering down at you. Although, having said that, imagine how terrifying it would be to have to poke around in Courtney's hole to abort the child... *shudders*
