Another week begins in the troubled life of
Britney Spears, and here's what's been happening over the weekend. It's not like this story's going to go away, is it?
Britney was originally detained at UCLA psychiatric ward for a term of 72 hours, which was due to run out on Saturday evening. After doctors conducted more tests they felt it wise for the star to be detained for further tests. Another 14 days, to be specific. So with Britney out of public sight for another fortnight, how will this story run and run?
Thankfully, her family are now involved, smattering quotes around and getting their faces on TV (for all the right reasons, you understand). Her father, Jamie, won legal custody over the singer on Friday afternoon, basically meaning he's got the money, the houses and the full collection of slightly-too-small clothes for the near future.
People are reporting that she is in a padded room but is allowed to wear her own clothes, use a communal payphone and meander out onto a patio for a cigarette.
Oh, finally the LAPD are investigating claims that items have been stolen from Britney’s house after she was hospitalised. A crime report has been filed stating that "valuable possessions" have gone missing. There are no suspects at the moment, though Jamie Spears is reportedly looking long and hard at her mistrusted 'manager' Sam Lufti and wondering where he got that new collection of see-through tops.
Strap yourself in, it's going to be a long fortnight.
