Complaints Filed With Police About “I’m A Celebrity King Of The Jungle”

Former BUSTED band member and winner of ITV’s “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here” MATT WILLIS may face a Police enquiry into possible perjury and perverting the course of justice. This follows formal complaints made and lodged by former BUSTED band members and founders KI FITZGERALD and OWEN DOYLE to the Police after allegedly false and misleading statements were attributed to WILLIS in a Statement of Truth served in the High Court as part of his legal defence in proceedings bought against him, James Bourne and Richard Rashman. The proceedings relate to an action launched by FITZGERALD and DOYLE over royalties and legal claims over the ownership of the bands name “BUSTED”.

A spokesperson for FITZGERALD and DOYLE said; “We can confirm that formal complaints and allegations have now been lodged with the Police in connection with possible Perjury in the current High Court Case bought against Matt Willis, James Bourne and Richard Rashman. Ki and Owen allege that Matt Willis, in particular, would appear to have attempted to pervert the course of justice in his defence and we have irrefutable evidence of fact to prove that specifics in their Statement of Truth are incorrect and wholly misleading. It will now be up to the Police to determine, first as a matter of law and then as a matter of fact, whether or not there has been an attempt to pervert the course of justice in the forthcoming High Court trial. For anyone who might think that this has been timed to coincide with “I’m A Celebrity”, we would remind you that High Court writs were served in December 2005 and that Busted's defence was only received 11 months later, after Matt Willis had already gone into the jungle”.

FITZGERALD and DOYLE were the two founding members of BUSTED who recruited Matt Willis (Sargent) and James Bourne in the original line up. Both members were then later sensationally sacked from the band they created and were airbrushed out of BUSTED history. FITZGERALD and DOYLE, who co-wrote the hits that made BUSTED famous, including; “What I Go To School For,” “Year 3000” and “Sleeping With The Light On”, mounted the legal claim in the High Court to get their names put back on the songs that they co-authored and to share-in the millions of royalties that the band made from their hits. The basis of the perjury allegations relate to defence statements submitted to the High Court by James Bourne, Matt Willis, and their manager Richard Rashman of Prestige Management Ltd (current manager of the band McFLY).

It is specifically attributed to Matt Willis in Busted's defence that he did not know BUSTED band founder KI FITZGERALD before he was auditioned for the band in January 2001 by KI FITZGERALD, OWEN DOYLE and JAMES BOURNE.  Irrefutable evidence, which is in the possession of their lawyers contradicts this story. The evidence verifies that Matt Willis DID know KI FITZGERALD prior to being auditioned for the band as both performers had attended the Sylvia Young School Of Drama & Acting together prior to 2001 and, in fact, both Matt Willis and KI FITZGERALD also auditioned for projects together whilst at the school.

Matt Willis faces a second, joint allegation and complaint of perjury, along with band mate JAMES BOURNE in relation to false and misleading statements attributed to them in their High Court defence relating to the band’s name “BUSTED” which they both claim, spectacularly, was accidentally created by former SPICE GIRL GERI HALLIWELL live on air on MTV. BUSTED the band (Matt Willis/ James Bourne/ Charlie Simpson) had always maintained that a friend of Matt Willis had telephoned GERI HALLIWELL during her stint as a guest MTV presenter and had “name-plugged” his friend's band “Buster”, which Halliwell misheard as “Busted” and hence the name was born.  

FITZGERALD & DOYLE’S legal team have irrefutable MTV video footage and evidence to prove that Neeley Fitzgerald (Ki Fitzgerald’s sister) called into the MTV show and  “name-checked” her brothers band “BUSTED” (a name that KI FITZGERALD maintains he came-up with) and informing GERI HALLIWELL that her brother’s band were waiting for a record deal. In another revelation, the live phone-in with GERI HALLIWELL was broadcast in April 2001,  some six months before FITZGERALD & DOYLE’S acrimonious departure from the band, which Richard Rashman and Prestige Management had maintained wasn't called “BUSTED” until after Fitzgerald and Doyle had left.

KI FITZGERALD added: “We just want to be able to go to Court and to have the whole truth come out at long last with everybody taking their turn in the witness box. I couldn't believe my eyes when their defence said that Matt hadn't known me when he auditioned for the band, as the two of us had been at Sylvia Young's drama school together and she once even made us stand back-to-back to see if we were the same height!! As for the band's name, we were all in the same room watching the TV when my sister called Geri Halliwell. Who would forget the name of their band being broadcast live on MTV by a Spice Girl ?! We were all over the moon because it was our first mention live on the telly.”

A spokesperson for Ki and Owen concluded; "The MTV footage is as clear as day and tells a very different story to that put-out by Busted's management from the outset. If they had come-up with the band's name, you would have thought that they would simply have said so from the beginning and not spread this wholly misleading story about Geri Halliwell".

A separate second High Court action is also to be launched by KI FITZGERALD and OWEN DOYLE against Matt Willis, James Bourne and Richard Rashman of Prestige Management in due course dealing with malicious falsehood.
