Anthony H Wilson - RIP

The world will be a much, much poorer place

Anthony H Wilson - RIP

tonywilson540x322
We'd heard rumours yesterday afternoon and in the evening it was confirmed that Tony Wilson, broadcaster, record label founder, nightclub entrepreneur, wit, raconteur and all-round genius had died, aged 57, following a prolonged battle with kidney cancer.

Tony touched us all deeply and inspired generations. He said many wise and witty things, but one of our favourites was: "If there is a choice between the truth and the legend, choose the legend." Tony, you were a legend and will always be remembered dearly by us.

Our thoughts are with Yvette, your children and your friends. You will be sorely missed.

The world is a sadder place today, in a world of sycophants you were a true legend. R.I.P.

yer great bloke but he is also responsible for forcing us to endure "love will tear us apart" and that surely has to be the worse record ever.

the man had a great life and achieved a lot for himself and the city

RIP and all that. The funeral should be interesting, given that Peter Hook & Bernard Sumner can't stand each other now...

Sad news, and I think Banjo & Thingy should learn a little respect. While I was no real fan of the bands that Wilson championed, there's no denying the man's passion for music & the things he believed in. Though he may have come across at times as a bit of a fool, his heart was nearly always in the right place. With tragedy & irony I understand that it was in fact a heart attack and not cancer that caused his untimely demise... perversely unpredictable to the end! R.I.P.

It's 5 am and I've got the Mondays on. Been trying to have a big one tonight, and I've dedicated every line and drink to the big man. I reckon if you want to send him a tribute you should do it in the best way, and let rip.

Jesus Christ, I've been deleted twice for calling someone a cunt. On Holy Moly! What's that all about? Step over the line did I? Because he's dead? In poor taste was it? Was he your Dad HM?

Manc boys in their mid thirties nake note: You need a reality check. Joy Division were certainly not deemed much cop until their singer copped it. Then He achieved instant Morrison status. However - one or two listens to their pitiful back catalogue will throw up only two or three songs worth paying for. The Happy Mondays - one half decent album - 7/10 at best. A few real fucking clunkers on it. Stone Roses - first album is excellent. Aside from the fact its a complete Byrds rip off. Best thing Manchester ever came up with (apart from the Smiths) Anthony Wilson was an arrogant industry prat who had nothing to do with the re-emergence of the Manchester scene in the late 80s/early 90s. This bunch of half witted and rather mediocre bands would have made it without his help. Go back to your fucking bongs you hapless Manc cunts.

And we mustn't forget what a stack of rancid, infected elephant shit New Order were. Lived off Blue Monday (which was shit) and countless remixes (equally shit) for their entire career. The best thing they ever did was "World in Motion" and that was only because of John Barnes' rapping. Manc twats.

after reading some of the comments above (both for and against) tony wilson, it's still good to see that people actually give a flying fuck to make the effort to talk about him. he'll be happy with all the comments. act accordingly.

no, let's get it straight: The Sphynxster, jonnysunspecs & cuntlicker2000 are upset because, in the spirit of the sullen and dismissive 'we finally got a band in the arctic monkeys' sense, their NME 07 faves Editors, The Enemy, Kaiser Chiefs, We Are Scientists, Razorlight and Kooks will simply not deliver and they know it. You have no bands. JD (for one) were a real, dirty, aggressive and unclassifiable rock band. Fuck off rentboy fucktards.
cuntlicker2000 on Mon 13 August 2007 said...
Dames: For your information I dont like any of those bands and I dont read the NME. Shows how much you know you cretinous cunt.

He would have loved all of this - at least he lived life with a bit of passion. for fucks sake you cant be right all the time and I would rather have 10 tony wilsons than 1 simon cowells and as for saluting cancer - grow up and sober up and keep away from the internet when you cant use reason - pratts of the highest order and censorship my arse who wants to read that self important unfunny shite. come back when you have something witty to say or stay away
JoMama on Mon 13 August 2007 said...
So what, I got taken off this posting for saying 'boo hoo'? HM you really are one double standard having hypocrytical censoring cunt. Cunt. There was a time you had to stoop to some depths of depravity and all types of rape-related filth to risk getting removed, now 'boo-hoo' does it? Or did Dames complain that someone dared disagree with his judgmental, all-knowing self-righteous bullshit? Yes Dames, you know everything, you are the true hardcore fan of everything cool, ever, and no one else knows shit. TWATTY.

Its sad that he's died. While everyones going on about what brilliant bands joy division and new order where you should remember who they are named after. Joy Division - the division of women prisoners used to entertain german soldiers. New Order - the 'glamorous' name for the third reich...................alledgedley........

The Sphynxster, banjostring, jonnysunspecs & cuntlicker2000 thank you for sharing your opinions on this matter. Wilson would have loved you for it. He rejoiced in the views of ignorant, narrow minded cunts like you believing (rightly) that everybody is entitled to their opinions irrespective of how wide of the mark they are. To dispute the musical importance and influence of Joy Division/New Order/Happy Mondays/Factory Records/Hacienda is to demonstrate what a bunch of ill informed fuck wits you really are. Well done for redefining and embellishing the meaning of the word Cunts.
