How do the American's keep pissing all over UK time and time again?

Would someone explain to me how, after the Sopranos, West Wing, Battlestar Galactica, Dexter, Lost, Heroes etc etc has someone in a senior commissioning position within a UK telebvision network NOT looked at their budgets and thought to themselves;

"Hmmm... if I bin off "My Family" or if I don't  recommission  "Rosemary & Thyme" I could have a pilot written and filmed that would be so well written, so wonderfully acted and produced that it would be talked about the world over, making the financiers of British television see the merit in investing large amounts of money into something splendid."

I have no idea either.

Anyway, this amazing series has just been released on DVD in the UK. it is simply the nuts. Buy it, stick on a dressing gown, masturbate whilst crying...oh sorry - no that's tomorrow, just watch and revel in it's splendour.

Ask yourself what the last great UK drama was. The Lakes? Cracker? Prime Suspect? Fucking hell I didn't even shave when they were filmed. Life on Mars - possibly the only truly inspired piece of drama broadcasting this millennium.

Ridiculous. Get the Studio 60 DVD and remind yourself how good telly can sometimes be.
