Walter Tully Who? Raised in an East End Orphanage, went on to become Britain's first black professional footballer, signed by Spurs in 1909 for £10, earning £4 a week. Spurned a football career to become Britain's first black Army officer. Died in the trenches in WW1. Now THAT, my friends is a fucking hero!

Wasn't Britains first black professional. that honour goes to Arthur Wharton who played for Rotherham in 1889.

Oops, my bad... Tull is indeed correct - just found out about him and felt he deserved props. Plus I'm a Spurs fan, so he gets extra big-ups in my eyes. Fucking LEGEND...
FrenchDuke on Tue 26 February 2008 said...
Yes he is a bit of a legend and he was born in my home town as well. At least he got out.

Sacred Cow? Or boring piece of old tat that no-one apart from Spurs fans is in the least bit interested by? You decide.
