By the look of him, he seems a typical example of someone who took up music to get a shag.
SaleoftheCentury on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Totally agree but he did write Hallelujah, and sort of forgive the miserable cunt most things after that.
MrsMoon on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Jeff Buckley's version is the very best...
BlartMonster on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
The voice that launched many a crate of paracetamol and bleach cocktails. When his new CDs come out, the share prices in Wilkinson Sword quadruple...
BWW on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Mrs Moon: As much as I love Jeff Buckley's version, John Cales is better.
kwebb on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Now Suzanne takes your hand ,And she leads you to the river She is wearing rags and feathers etc etc.
MrsMoon on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
He wrote that to let laid, no other reason!
SaleoftheCentury on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
One of my all time favourite songs Kebb, never been particularly fond of cover versions, unless they are done drastically different, and I just don't feel that from the two mentioned. Although the Buckley version is beautifuly sung.
kwebb on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Suzanne is a fantastic song.
eight on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
'Hey that's no way to say goodbye' is another.
MrsMoon on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
get, not let..oh you know...
kwebb on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
First We Take Manhattan is another demon.
JiggeryCock on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
I like that song he did for 'Natural Born Killers'. Give me crack and anal sex / Take the only tree that's left / and stuff it up the hole left in your culture. Could've been an HM contributor for that lyric alone.
SpackoMcDribble on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
has he died?
kwebb on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
No. We're pretending someone has asked us "what we reckon"... cause nobody ever asks me *wipes away tears*
dandyboy on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
The two tracks he had in Natural Born Killers are fucking awesome, Waiting For The Miracle especially. Keep meaning to look up the older stuff but haven't been suitably depressed for quite a while now.
BWW on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
SOTC. The two cover versions are similar to each other but totally different from Cohen's gospel original.
SaleoftheCentury on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
I actually don't think they are but of course your ears and indeed taste may be far superior to mine.
sonofadiddly on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Is that you littleleopard?

I preferred him in Regie Perrin.

Miserable whiney bollocks

Get laid. Even if you have to pay for it. Before it's too late.
on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
I dont if he's an ugly fucker, a whiney bastard or canadian...he shits all over Dylan (i might regret saying that soon, or when listening to Its all over now baby blue)...i just dont know anymore
on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
(Insert the word 'Care' inbetween the words 'Dont' and and 'If')
SaleoftheCentury on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Pickles, stop it with the anti Dylan rubbish, it is a bit like saying that eggs are better than banana's...
MrsMoon on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
MrPickles has a right to his opinion Sale, there's a good chap...but eggs are better than bananas, you can't have a boiled banana with soldiers now, can you...
SaleoftheCentury on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Alright, alright, alright but I'm sure you would understand if I said that the Boomtown Rats pissed all over the Smiths, no?
SaleoftheCentury on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
I don't know why I mentioned banana's either, despise them unless a) I am really hungry and there is nothing else or b) have got a really bad case of the squits and I'm really hungry and there is nothing else
kagee on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Saw him a week ago in Dublin. The man is a God. And less of the depressing shit! Listen to the lyrics!!
kwebb on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Bananas are better than eggs Mrs M. Pah - imagine eggs in pyjamas?! You see?!
BigVern on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
humpty the banana sat on a wall humpty the banana.... nah doesn't work
fuckwit on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Mrs Moon, yet again we're agreed on our musical taste. Jeff Buckley was a twat, but he sure sang Hallelujah very nicely
SpartacusMills on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Everybody Knows - fucking great song
catfood on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
two words: Jazz Police.
on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Boomtown Rats Vs The Smiths, thats a bit much, i mean if we're pitting Leonard Cohen against Bob Dylan, at least a discussion could take place.....its just that sometimes i'll take Sisters Of Mercy over Maggie's Farm, and sometimes i'll take Idiot Wind over Suzanne....if you catch my drift.
on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
And thank you MrsM
dandyboy on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
I nominated The Moldy Peaches over the weekend after rediscovering their debut, surely Downloading Porn With Davo stands head and shoulders over Masters Of War and First We Take Manhattan?
SkinnySlut on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
I agree with SOTC. Eggs are better than bananas.
BlartMonster on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Is that a bit like Westlife taking on Boyzone in a scat porn contest? *shudder*
on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
dandyboy, i do believe an album with a song as awful as 'Little Bunny Foo Foo' should be put into the cunts corner, post haste....however i do believe that you are (as the wise MrsM put it) entitled to your opinion....and i am a fan of the songs 'Jorge Regula', 'Whose Got The Crack' and 'Anyone Else But You'....but they are still nowhere near as good as Leonard C's 'Joan Of Arc', 'Famous Blue Raincoat' or 'Chelsea Hotel'...concerning the Banana/Egg debate, which is Morrissey and which is that scruffy, talentless hobo Bob Geldof....i dont think Moz would take kindly to being called an Egg.
SkinnySlut on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
oh, Geldof's a twat. Mind you Morrisey is a bit of a girl at the moment. * prepares for onslaught*
dandyboy on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Don't worry MrPickles, I was just taking the piss that something as funny and irreverent as Downloading Porn was better than the studious and serious works by the others.
catfood on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
always thought smiths tunes sounded like the opening credits of a sports roundup show.
on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
I always sound way too serious, like that anal middle class friend, that EVERYONE seems to have.
SaleoftheCentury on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
The Sisters of Mercy, there cover of Hot Chocolate's Emma, probably one of my favourite ever...
on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
I liked Hot Chocolate's cover of 'Nazi Punks Fuck Off!'
dandyboy on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Sale, that's a top tune! And apparently their cover of Jolene is even better...
BWW on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Hot Chocolate's cover of the Anti Nowhere League's, So What, is even better than the original.
SaleoftheCentury on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Bit too close to the original really DandyBoy, however I can also recommend Sonic Youth's version of the Carpenters 'Superstar', Nouvelle Vague's version of the Dead Kennedy's 'Too Drunk to Fuck' and Pippi Lotti Rist's version of Chris Isaac's, 'Wicked Game'. I have a version of Springsteens 'Dancing in the Dark", which is fairly mindblowing by a one-off band called RadioStar but you probably won't be able to get your hands on that one.
on Mon 23 June 2008 said...
Sonic Youth's cover of Superstar is embarassing...
dandyboy on Tue 24 June 2008 said...
I remember hearing the Sonic Youth version of Superstar years ago and really liking it. Love some of the Nouvelle Vague covers (Marian, A Forest and Friday Night And Saturday Morning especially) and Johnny Cash did a fair few decent ones too. And if you can find it, Submarine's cover of Galaxie 500's Tugboat is fantastic. Right, music collection comparisons done for one night.
MrBeefy on Tue 24 June 2008 said...
I'll never forget The Young Ones. "We'll all be dead yet still alive...like Leonard Cohen"
SaleoftheCentury on Tue 24 June 2008 said...
probably embarrassing if the original is your all time favourite song Pickles
carter on Tue 24 June 2008 said...
SOTC.....then I will recommend Iggy Pop's version of "Family Affair" by Sly and the Family Stone.
SaleoftheCentury on Wed 25 June 2008 said...
I'll check that out Carter, tak!
Barbersmith on Wed 25 June 2008 said...
Have you lot finished wanking each other off in a "I know loads of obscure records, me" way yet? If so, can I just say that he's a miserable cunt and Chas'n'Dave would wipe the floor with him.
