And if you also want to jump on the Johnny Cash bandwagon, you can pick up loads of his albums at a bargain price in the Record and Tape exchange, as loads of other desperate-to-be-cool cunts bought all of his albums only to realise he has 3 good songs.

Oh just fuck right off on this one. I'm sorry, but no. The only man who could make Leonard Cohen sound upbeat and enjoyable. They were playing some unbelievably shite album of covers he'd done in Borders the other week and I couldn't help noticing the massive crowds either leaving the store or heading for the self-help section. Reasonably good singer who is in no way qualified for the kind of adulation he receives.

I really empathise with his songs, life is a bitch-kicker, never have any money, not much good happens, oh, hang on, I must be a twat for being happy.

i mean i admit .... i watched walk the line last week and having not heard much of his music ( my parents didn't subject me to that ....more roy orbison etc etc ) anyway ! ...yes i thought ooooh this is quite nice , quite good BUT WHY EVERY FUCKING CHANNEL I PUT ON IS HE THERE , oh and is he dead ??

You have to have a heart of granite not to be moved by his final video 'Hurt'.

sadly mrs moon i didn't see the last hour but johnny cash is definately someone i'm going to be investigating ....i liked the one about where he shot a man in reno or something
MrsMoon on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
Walk The Line is a sappy, rose tinted view of him. I am no fan, but i have alot of respect for the things he did ie the prison concerts, his championing of the native american indian and basically pissing off the establishment and going his own sweet way and always trying something new.
littleleopard82 on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
right well that told me
BloodyNora on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
Shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.
Barbersmith on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
He's OK. Is this how to get heroes posted? Threaten the monkey with death?
littleleopard82 on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
ha ha ...... it would seem so .... i do like him but why is he on everyting at the minute ?
rararasputin on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
I really like Johnny Cash. You're all idiots.
HaveABreakHaveAGreenDay on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
Johnny Cash is a legend in our own lifetimes so haters: shut the fuck up and what makes you think you can do any better? Go on then. Do as much as he's done and as well and THEN you can judge.
MrsMoon on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
You can't deny it, the man is almost a mythological archetype.
BangtidyBeeatch on Mon 02 June 2008 said...
The urge to pipe up in favour of the Man in Black overwhelms me... he totally deserves his legend status and anyone saying any different has no soul. Or ears.
dandyboy on Tue 03 June 2008 said...
And his cover version of Soundgarden's Rusty Cage kicks arse!
merf on Tue 03 June 2008 said...
how many wank bags who claim he's a legend actually listen to the dire shite he put out in the name of music ? may have been a lovely bloke I haven't a clue but everything I've heard sounds like an old man who can't sing warbling around a tune, and don't get me started on that abomination of a cover version he did of a Nine Inch Nails classic. toss.
dandyboy on Tue 03 June 2008 said...
Think you're in the minority about Hurt, Merf, considering it's generally regarded as the best cover version of recent years. His later stuff has a gravitas that can only come from being an old dying man and capturing it in song. I know I sound like a cunt here but I'm not a music critic and can't put it properly in to words. However, some of his songs are incredibly moving, and his choice of songs to cover was for the most part impeccable. Not many 70-somethings I know of would have even heard of Nick Cave, Beck, Nine Inch Nails or Soundgarden, never mind thinking they could add something to their songs.

Well said Dandyboy! *applauds*

I don't get it, why all the sudden fascination with Johnny Cash? Not heard anything from him for years. Has he died recently or something?
littleleopard82 on Wed 04 June 2008 said...
i have been asking that too why , his film was t'other week then there was this documentary about him etc etc
