Quentin Tarantino He's been mentioned on here before but not given the attention to which he is truly due. I'm reminded of this watching Kill Bill Vol 1 on the TV tonight. The ultimate triumph of style over substance.

Not one of his movies warrant a second viewing. Reservoir Dogs was mildly diverting when it appeared and Pulp Fiction had some clever ideas but even then the self-indulgence was starting to show. Everything after that is like a bad music video with appallingly stilted dialogue interspersed randomly. Fuck off back to whatever 70's B-movie cinema you crawled out of and don't bother the world again. Watch Grindhouse if you think I'm wrong.

All his films are style over substance. Sometimes his style is spot on though, the self-indulgent wanker.
chickenkiev on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Agree with the above poster - the point of his films is style over substance, something which is fantastic to watch at times
HeroicDose on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Watched Kill Bill on the TV last night and enjoyed it thoroughly, as usual. All good directors are self indulgent, it helps them not to create mediocre arsemilk. Go and watch Mamma Mia, you anal cabbage, it might be more your style.

Has he died? Or made a film lately?
HeroicDose on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Both, Ahknowme. He starred in his own snuff movie called "Whistle Down The Quim" where he was thrashed to death with pig udders. Soundtrack by Floella Benjamin.

Why can't Tarrantino make films that start at the begining and go through to the end without jumping about all over the fucking place. I reckon its because they are usually nothing stories so they deliberatly confuse you to keep you interested trying to figure out what the fucks going on when not much at all is really.
AmberGlo on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Tarantino has had a few blips, but Kill Bill certainly wasnt one of them. The man makes "cool" movies - mostly. Yes they are self-indulgent and uber-cheesy, but thats the fucking point. As HeroicDocs said, try watching somethng REALLY shit, like Mama mia or any number of the crap romcoms that hit the box office every week to see how shit they are in comparison. Or are you Hugh Grant?
SpartacusMills on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are both great. Jackie Brown isn't bad. True Romance is pretty good (although he only wrote it). Kill Bill is shite.
sandyman on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
I quite liked it when he directed an episode of coronation street back in 1996, mavis and rita looked great with those shades on.

Don't forget Dusk till dawn, superb...
ComradeDuch on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Ahhh fuck off OP. A man is allowed to make a few mistakes. QT has added more to the sum of cinema (even with his mistakes) than you could imagine where to begin. I don't want to see your world where irrational auteurs aren't allowed to do as they please.
Mohammered on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Overrated.
QWERTYOP on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
OP and everyone who doesn't think that Kill Bill (and Kill Bill 2) are among the best films ever made can just fucking die. Seriously, people like that don't deserve air.
TheDuke on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
They're good but "amongst the best films ever made", NO. not even close.
QWERTYOP on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Meh. Fave films are like your fave music and comedy. It's all subjective.
Kitty on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Im with Heroic on this one. Watched Kill Bill Volume 1 last night and loved it.
svenenwherepop on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Death Proof was the worst film i saw last year, but i did enjoy Kill Bill Vol.1, yet i hated Kill Bill vol.2. I'm on the fence with this one...

Spartacus speaks the truth.
QWERTYOP on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Spartacus talks bollocks. Anybody who says that Jackie Brown was a better film than Kill Bill is clearly a complete mental.
ahknowme on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Like some. Very disappointed in his CSI effort though.
SpartacusMills on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Jackie Brown is FAR superior to Kill Bill. Kill Bill is Tarantino disappearing up his own over-stylised and self-indulgent arsehole. Look - Blood spraying! How AMAZING Quentin! And we'll overlook the fact that Uma Thurman can't act her way out of a paper bag. Jackie Brown has a better plot, better characterisation and better acting. Kill Bill is the work of a director with no self control who thinks he can get away with anything (although Carradine is admittedly very good).
QWERTYOP on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Careful Spartacus! The men in white coats will be coming for you if you keep spouting crazy talk like that! How you can think the Kill Bill films are just about blood and guts is beyond me. I could watch them over and over again forever and i'm not gorefest fan.
bystander on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
There's some good lines but why not put them in the right order? Anyway I'd prefer to watch Bullitt.
littleleopard82 on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
everyone loved pulp fiction though eh ? and dusk till dawn
KenBoonsmotorbike on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Say what you want about the man - at least when he releases a new film, you'll give it a watch to see what it's like - True Romance was probably the best film he never made (just wrote instead).....
littleleopard82 on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
i liked natural born killers ? did he do that ?
HeroicDose on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
LL, according to IMDB he wrote the original story but didn't like what the scriptwriters did with it. So he turned into a bloodsucking vampire. On no wait, that was something else...
KenBoonsmotorbike on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
He wrote 3 scripts originally - Reservoir dogs, natural born killers & true romance - but only got to make one of them..... Oliver Stone made NBK & Tony Scott made True Romance
HeroicDose on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
He also has a head exactly the same shape as that of a wasp's.
KenBoonsmotorbike on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Isn't he Jimmy Swanson in South Park as well?
HeroicDose on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
Puh p p puh possibly, Ken
libertyvalance2008 on Sat 05 July 2008 said...
FUCK... I heard someone else say that too, is it true ???

I heard he was the inspiration for tinted double glazing in conservatories.
HeroicDose on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
And cunt aquariums.
washinglinethief on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
Is it true he is coming over here to present a revived version of the sheepdog trial show "one man and his dog"?
washinglinethief on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
Is a cunt aquarium where they make them smell of fish?
HeroicDose on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
I think so, Thiefy. Cunt aquariums, dog reservoirs, where will it all end? With shooting of people in their pudgy faces, I suspect.
chinky on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
OP's talking crap and his last sentence is nonsensical. Would be like saying Full Metal Jacket and The Shining are shit and watch Eyes Wide Shut if you think I'm wrong.
sirbuckle on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
Our lives would be less colourful without Tarrantino. come on be honest. top man in my book
Geushky on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
I like Tarantino although I think he should remain behind the camera; his cameo in Pulp Fiction was atrocious.
Nadiestar on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
He can direct but her sure as fuck can't act. He's no Kevin Smith in the acting department. I like QT but i hated the grandfathers watch scene in Pulp Fiction. There was no reason for it. whenever i watch it i skip it.
libertyvalance2008 on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
Its to hammer home the importance of the watch to Butch, or later in life when he has to flee the city he'd just leave the fucking thing behind.
Geushky on Sun 06 July 2008 said...
He aboslutely HAD to go back for the watch, it was integral.
ahknowme on Mon 07 July 2008 said...
The watch was a metaphor. Don't waste your life by sticking time up your arse.

Oh fuck off OP you poncey Cunt
BarristerBabyBatter on Mon 07 July 2008 said...
OP is a bollock-gobbling spunkmuppet. See Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown you dickwad.
Barbersmith on Mon 07 July 2008 said...
Reservoir Dogs is a superb film, but I can't help thinking these days that he might consider making films that other people want to see. "Hey, I'm making a kung-fu movie next". No Quentin. Stop it.
Strawsonian on Mon 07 July 2008 said...
QT's made some great films in his time (none recently, mind you), but these days he looks like a fat, bald Roger Federer.
CaptainCuntflaps on Mon 07 July 2008 said...
OP - you stick with Be Kind Rewind and I'll stick with self-indulgent Tarantino flicks you dim-witted spunkbubble.
